Getting Started with HE Remote for the ActiSys 200L

  • Right click the top left button on HE Remote.
By default is says 'Cable'. If you want it to represent a different home entertainment device, like a Satellite receiver, select the "Change the 'Cable' buttons text" menu and enter the text you want into the input box.

  • Right click the 'Cable' Button and highlight the 'Select IR Transmitter' and click 'ActiSys'.
HE Remote will search for your Actisys. You can set the serial port manually by right clicking the 'Cable' Button and highlight the 'Select Com Port' and click the com port for your AcitSys.

If HE Remote can't find your ActiSys your modem may be using the same IRQ. Go to the Control Panel and disable your modem in the Device Manager. Re-enabling your modem while HE Remote is using the com port should force XP to put your modem on a different port.

At this point lets see if it works.

    • Right click the 'Cable' Button and click the "Open the ActiSys's Library" menu item.
    • In the Library in -Select Device- choose "Cable"
    • In the Library in -Select Brand- choose "VM"
    • In the Library in -Select Code- choose "1"
    • On the HE Remote main form, click the 'one' button while looking directly into the end of your ActiSys. You should see two leds light briefly.

  • Right click the 'Cable' Button and click the "Learn Frequency for 'Cable'" menu item.
  • Right click the 'Cable' Button and click the 'Set the Bit Time for 'Cable'
    • Learning the bit time correctly has turned into rather a large problem. I have elected to use a trial and error method. 550 and 436 appear to be the most commonly used time periods. It's a simple task to learn and send a command as a test of the bit time.

  • I thought I would take a moment to explain how I teach the Actisys.
I have found that if I hold the remote in one hand and just tap the button with the other hand I get a nice short signal. When the signal is sent to the Actisys it can't be interrupted or it won't look right to the receiver. Your computer doesn't like being tied up doing one thing so be sure you don't hold the button down.

  • Right click the 'Cable' Button and click the 'Learn All the Buttons for 'Cable'
  • Now point your ActiSys at your Cable box and start pressing buttons and see if they all work.

    • If some work and others don't work, right click on a button that didn't work and click the 'Learn the '?' button menu item and relearn the button.
    • If none of the buttons work or you can't learn some of the buttons then the Bit Time is wrong.
    • Right click the 'Cable' Button and click the 'Set the Bit Time for 'Cable' and try a different bit time.
